Pear Edge Glued Panels & Worktops
Pear is also
called Swiss Pear and found in North America, Europe, and parts of western and southeast
Asia.
Swiss Pear sapwood is not clearly differentiated from the heartwood, which is a shade of pinkish brown. Distinction between sapwood and heartwood is particularly difficult in younger trees and heartwood is generally darker and more distinct in older trees.
Swiss Pear grain is typically straight and the wood has a very close and uniform texture. Quarter cut wood often shows a large mottled figure.
Pearwood is sometimes dyed and used as a substitute for Ebony.
Finger jointed pear panels are regularly used as pear worktops, and in the manufacture of all types of furniture.
