Fineline Stripey Plywood
Decorative plywood with its edges on its face!
The stripey appearance of Fineline plywood is used as a decorative feature, and the fact that the product is a solid block of wood allows for complicated shapes & patterns to be produced. This decorative stripey plywood is manufactured using a combination of 2.2-3.0mm wide strips of woods that are bonded together to form a 4mm-150mm thick solid plywood block called Fineline.
Plywood is usually cross-banded, predominantly to ensure extra stability and strength. As a consequence, the core veneers exhibit a strip effect along their edge due to the cross-banding of the veneers.
In the case of this product the stripey layup is designed to be used as a decorative face finish. Whether or not the veneers have been cross-banded, this unusual decorative plywood has a striking appearance right across the face and throughout the thickness of the panel, due to the nature of the woods being used and the manner in which they are oriented and/or mixed.
Fineline plywood is perfect for use in interior finishes and in the manufacture of decorative furniture, stairs & floors. It can be supplied bonded onto a secondary substrate in the same way as a thick veneer, for instance as Fineline faced MDF.
As an alternative to using a single wood specie in a single panel, contrasting strips can be bonded to your own design or pattern of repeats, in order to produce a striking, solid block of wood up to 150mm thick that has an attractive, stripey appearance on both face & back, in fact right through to its core!
