Red Alder Veneer
Alder
grows along the Pacific coast between Alaska and California. It is the principal
hardwood for commercial manufacture of wood products in Oregon and Washington and
the most abundant commercial hardwood species in these two states.
Red alder wood is almost white when freshly cut but quickly changes to a light tan or light brown with a yellow or reddish tinge when exposed to the air. Heartwood is formed only in trees of advanced age, and there is no visible boundary between heartwood and sapwood.
Red Alder veneer is straight grained and fine textured, with no outstanding figure.
