American Sycamore Burr Veneer

Lacewood Veneer (Quartered European Plane Veneer)

American American Sycamore is composed of 5 to 9 species which grow in North America and Eurasia, where it is known as European Plane.

American Sycamore sapwood, which is 4-8cm wide, is slightly lighter than the heartwood, which is light reddish-brown. The timber is often chemically treated to produce a form of Harewood, in which the background colour becomes silver grey, but the broad rays retain their original colour.

American Sycamore has a fine texture and the grain is usually straight, although it can be interlocked.

American Sycamore Burr is caused by abnormal growth, or excrescences, which are common to most trees. Irritation or injury forms an interwoven, contorted, or gnarly mass of dense woody tissue from which this veneer is harvested.
