Australian Walnut is also known as Queensland Walnut, Oriental Wood, Walnut Bean and Black Nut. It is restricted in occurrence to the coastal tablelands of north Queensland and is a dominant tree in the rainforest, occurring either singly or in clumps.

The sapwood of Australian Walnut is up to 10cm wide and pale yellow in colour, while the heartwood is variable, but usually greyish-brown with streaks of chocolate brown, black or pink.

Australian Walnut veneer grain is moderately close and even, and sometimes wavy, resulting in a wide variety of figure effects, especially in quarter-sawn surfaces and texture is moderate.
