Blackbean Veneered Panels & Jointed Veneer

View Blackbean veneered panels & doors in full size

Blackbean is also known as Moreton Bay Bean, Moreton Bay Chestnut and Beantree. It is scattered in rainforest regions of Australia from Lismore, New South Wales to Iron Range on Cape York Peninsula. It is also found in New Caledonia and Vanuatu.

Blackbean sapwood is white to yellow in colour, while the heartwood ranges from dark brown to chocolate shades deepening almost to black, sometimes streaked with lighter coloured bands.

The wood is porous and coarse grained with some figure, and with striated vessel lines prominent on longitudinal surfaces. This effect is due to chalky grey soft tissue surrounding the vessels. The prominent figure in Blackbean veneer is caused mainly by the parenchyma associated with vessels.
