Bog Oak Veneered Panels & Jointed Veneer

View Bog Oak veneered panels & doors in full size

Bog Oak is an extremely rare, attractive and valuable veneer, produced when oaks are buried for thousands of years in peat bogs. During this time the wood becomes a deep chocolate colour, which is due to a chemical change in the wood, caused by tannin reactions with water containing iron.

Bog Oaks are generally found when excavating lakes or digging gravel pits in the plains of large rivers, with most Bog Oak found in the peat bogs of Great Britain & Ireland, as well as the Rhine Valley.

Some Bog Oak logs have been carbon dated, showing them to be 6,000 years old - it makes quite a conversation piece to confirm that your furniture comes from a log that existed thousands of years before the Great Pyramids of Gizah!
