Carolina Pine is mainly produced in the southern United States, with Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, Arkansas & Louisiana being the main producing areas.

Carolina Pine sapwood, which is usually quite wide in second-growth stands, is yellowish white and the heartwood, which begins to form when the tree is about 20 years old, is reddish brown, although in old, slow-growth trees, the sapwood may be only 2- 5 cm wide.
