Elm Burr Veneer

Elm Burr Veneer

European Elm is also known as English Elm, Smooth Leaved (French or Flemish) Elm, Dutch Elm and Wych or Scotch Elm. It is found in temperate regions of Europe and western Asia.

The pale sapwood of European Elm is clearly demarcated from the dull brown heartwood, which often is tinted with a reddish hue.

European Elm veneer is typically cross grained.

Elm Burr veneer is caused by abnormal growth, or excrescences, which are common to most trees. Irritation or injury forms an interwoven, contorted, or gnarly mass of dense woody tissue from which this veneer is harvested.
