Muninga is also known as Mutete, Mukwa, Mtumbati, Kiatt and Kajat. It is distributed widely over south-central Africa and common in savanna woodland.
The pale grey or yellowish Muninga sapwood is clearly demarcated from the heartwood, which is highly variable, being pale uniform brown, golden brown, chocolate brown, brick red, or purplish brown, with darker or redder streaks that tone down on exposure
The grain of Muninga veneer is straight to interlocked, with an attractive figure and the texture medium to coarse. This wood has no lustre and a faint and aromatic scent.
