Sapele Veneered Panels & Jointed Veneer
Sapele is a large tree from the African rainforest, growing from Sierra Leone to Angola and eastward through the Congo to Uganda.
The distinct, grey-pink or cream Sapele sapwood may be up to 10cm wide, while the heartwood is pink when freshly cut, (similar to that of Honduras Mahogany), maturing to a red-brown or purple-brown colour.
The texture of Sapele veneer is typically moderately fine and the grain is interlocked, producing the instantly recognisable narrow and uniform striping when quarter-sawn.
Sapele takes finishes well.
