Silky Oak Veneer

Silky Oak Veneer

Oak is also known as Southern Silky Oak, Kawilia and, in the US, as Lacewood. It is native to north Queensland in eastern Australia but planted extensively as a shade tree for coffee and tea plantations and as an ornamental in tropical and subtropical regions.

The sapwood is cream coloured and moderately well-defined from the heartwood, which is pale pinkish brown, becoming yellow brown on exposure

The grain is straight to wavy and texture medium to coarse. The wood is lustrous and, because of large rays, figure is prominent on quartered faces.
