Wenge Substitute Veneer
Wenge substitute is a lower cost alternative to true Wenge veneer and available only as quartered veneer.
It is actually a light-coloured veneer that has been dyed to a dark brown colour to resemble true Wenge, but is available in commercial quantities at a lower cost.
Wenge substitute is a fairly uniform dark brown and has distinctive rays producing a flecked figure. The grain is typically straight or shallowly interlocked, and the texture is typically fairly coarse.
The wood is not as open grained as true Wenge veneer.
