Overview
Adze has a repeating series of its surface carved to emulate the effect of using an adze - a hand tool similar to an axe with an arched blade at right angles to the handle. There is a difference of approx. 4mm between the high and low points of the profiled design as standard. The product can be supplied as a single-layer or composite of multiple layers, in principle available in panel thickness from 8mm.
Adze is well-suited to the surface of our three-layer solid wood panels, or coloured MDF, and the pattern is tileable in the standard panel size of 2400x1200mm. It can be supplied in a wide range of materials and in any size up to maximum 3600x1500mm, subject to availability of raw material
In detail
While removing material from one side of any panel can often cause it to cup towards the machined face, this design minimizes the risk of cupping somewhat - although thinner panels tend to be more likely to deform.
We have found that our 20mm Three-layer panels generally remain fairly flat with this design when first produced, but it is vital that design of any installation allows for the risk of such movement.
MDF panels are often ordered with a diamond pattern of relieving v-grooves machined into the reverse in order to help keep the panel as flat as possible. As an alternative a laminate can be bonded to the reverse or an additional panel such as 18mm MDF used in place of the laminate. This last option increases the overall thickness, but also offers additional bulk to help with hidden fixings
This machined design repeats on a 2400x1200mm basis
