Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where do you supply?

We supply trade customers primarily in the UK, Republic of Ireland, and associated offshore islands, and also deliver to Europe.

For supply to areas outside our operations, we would require your partner in one of these areas to act on your behalf and arrange delivery to you.

  • Is there a minimum order quantity/value?

Some products can be supplied in single items as part of a mixed order, while others may have a minimum order quantity per item of a pallet or more - particularly if they are made specially to order.

For most stock items the minimum order value is typically £300 mixed goods, plus packaging, freight, and VAT.

From time to time clearance items may be listed on a particular product's web page, which will include the details of any minimum quantity or if it is to be sold as a single batch lot.

  • Can I use all of the sheet?

Unless it has been cut to its final size and/or shape specifically for you, it is standard industry practice to expect to trim all edges of a panel by 10mm - particularly if panels are to be installed next to each other in order to keep a uniform margin.

Panel manufacturers are allowed a standard tolerance of ±5mm from the stated panel size and squareness. Trimming the panel ensures all corners of the panel are square to each other.

This practice also removes any scuffing, corner rounding, chips or loss of surface covering, etc. that can sometimes occur around the panel edges at any point during transit. Such aspects are to be expected and not classed as damage or defects unless panels are supplied as cut to final size.

  • Which way does the face grain run?

Industry standard is to declare the grain direction of any natural wood panel first. E.g.

    • 2440x1220mm -> face grain runs with the 2440mm dimension
    • 1220x2440mm -> face grain runs with the 1220mm dimension

NB: This point does not apply to panels that are laminated, painted, coated, etc. unless that aspect of the core plywood has been specified. (Most woodgrain laminates are long-grain orientation but some are designed by the manufacturer specifically to achieve a cross-grain effect when bonded.)

  • Can plywood be used as an internal or cupboard door?

Plywoods & other natural wood panels are used extensively as internal doors, kitchen doors, bedroom wardrobe doors, etc. However, any natural wood can be prone to movement or deformation due to changes in ambient moisture content or long-term stresses. To account for this, it is highly recommended that installations with natural wood products consider such possible movement in their design.

While multilayered panels like plywood & triply three-layered panels will limit movement, such movement is still to be expected, particularly with products like FR plywood or similar impregnated products where the addition of chemicals will tend to change their natural level of equlibirum.

Veneered or laminated MR MDF products tend to move the least and can be further protected with a suitable coating, while the effect of long-term stresses can be mitigated by suitable design.

  • Can you deliver to site?

We can deliver products to site or residential addresses. Unless specified otherwise before ordering however, deliveries may be made via high-sided articulated vehicles during normal working hours (Mon-Fri 09:00-17:00). (See our Terms & Conditions for details).

Mechanised offloading using a Moffett forklift attached to the delivery vehicle is often possible at an additional charge. Actual cost can be confirmed at the time of order.

  • How quickly can I expect to receive the goods if they are in stock?

Stock items are normally delivered to most parts of mainland UK within 2-3 days.

Deliveries to postal areas GY, HS, JE, ZE, and some areas within AB, IV, PA, KW are normally made within 3-4 days.

BT postcodes & County Dublin typically receive delivery within 3-4 days, while the rest of Eire is normally within 4-5 days.

Transit times to mainland Europe are typically 1-2 weeks dependent upon details.

Expedited freight can often be arranged to shortcut these times at an additional premium.

  • Can you offer cutting, machining, drilling, profiling, etc?

We can offer any form of further processing you may require, e.g. we offer all manner of sizing, cutting, profiling, profiling, CNC machining and coating with paints, lacquers, etc.

  • Can you send me a brochure/price list?

This website serves as our online brochure, providing up-to-date information for trade customers.

Due to the complexity of our products and the various customization options, it is not feasible to provide a generic price list that woudl ne inaccurate for most enquiries. Instead, we offer tailored solutions for each customer's specific needs.

For additional reassurance ask for goods available under credible independent third party certification schemes, such as the PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) or FSC®(Forest Stewardship Council).

Winwood Products has been assessed under both schemes and has obtained the following chain of custody certificates:

More information can be found at:

  • What are the industry certifications FSC® and PEFC, and what do they mean?

FSC® (Forest Stewardship Council) is a global forest accreditation body offering independent third party verification of forest management and timber products. It does not conduct the certification itself, but instead accredits certification bodies to undertake the assessment of forests, timber and timber product processing operations on its behalf and licences them to register organisations to the FSC® schemes.

PEFC (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) is a framework for the mutual recognition of credible national or regional forest certification schemes which have been developed to meet internationally recognised requirements for sustainable forest management. It is a single-issue certification scheme, which is why its claims concern only sustainable forest management and the wood or fibre chain from the forest to the consumer.

Under both schemes, the verification of the chain of custody of wood is required for all processing companies along the wood chain and the trading companies, which break down already labelled packages of products.

  • Can you offer sustainable goods with FSC® or PEFC Certification?

Yes, Winwood Products has been assessed under both schemes and has obtained the following chain of custody certificates:
